For over a decade, I’ve had the privilege of caring for dogs in San Francisco and beyond. I’ve helped reactive pups find their calm, recent surgery patients recover in comfort, and high-energy huskies get the “swim time” they crave.
But as the pet-sitting industry changed, I noticed a problem.
Large corporate platforms like Rover began taking increasingly larger cuts—up to 40% of what pet parents pay. That’s money being pulled away from the local community and the actual care of your dog to line the pockets of a tech giant.
I founded StayPaws.dog to provide a better alternative.
The StayPaws Vision: A Fairer Way Forward
We are building a platform designed by sitters, for sitters. StayPaws is committed to a Circular Economy Model where the value created by our community stays within the community.
Our founding principles(in progress) for a new platform:
- Radical Transparency: Currently, there are no platform fees. It is completely free for sitters/trainers to use the service. At no time will fees exceed 10% of what the pet parent pays out.
- The “Legacy Loop” Model: We are developing a unique “Down-the-Line” distribution system. Once a founding member or high-earner reaches a lifetime contribution milestone, those surplus fees are redistributed to support and onboard the next generation of sitters joining the platform.
- Worker Empowerment: Whether through a flat-fee software model or a worker-owned cooperative structure, our goal is to ensure the person holding the leash is the one who benefits most from their labor.
- Equity Over Extraction: We don’t answer to venture capitalists; we answer to our sitters, our trainers, and the pet parents who trust us.
